The Florida Model United Nations is pleased to hold its eighth annual Model United Nations Conference held October 11-12, 2013 at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL.

Welcome from your 2013 Secretary General

Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Future Participants,

I am pleased to welcome you to the 8th annual Florida Model United Nations Conference (FMUN). In October of every year, delegates from colleges across the state converge to represent countries spanning the globe, debate political views, bring fresh solutions to the table and work together in a spirit of cooperation to solve some of the world’s most pressing issues. FMUN is a wonderful conference that is sure to teach delegates something new, whether it is their first year or they are a veteran within their MUN program. With this in consideration, we ask, as always, that these more experienced delegates be willing to assist newer attendees by fostering their learning process, and setting an example, as someone once did for them.

FMUN is a conference that prides itself on our level of education, experience and professionalism. Our staff includes students from all over Florida, in attendance at numerous schools including community colleges, private schools and public universities. They range from a variety of majors and backgrounds but all share a passion for global issues and the desire to teach others about these topics and to foster a spirit of cooperation to find potential solutions. By the end of this conference it is my sincerest hope that each and every delegate will be able to walk away with a deeper understanding and respect for the different cultures of the world and their unique stance on global issues, a sense of accomplishment at working side by side other delegates and finding solutions, and an example of a professional and challenging MUN conference that will better their understanding of the rules and procedures of the United Nations. Please have no hesitation in contacting me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have, whether Faculty Advisors, Delegates or interested parties.

Sincerely,
Kyle Patterson
